It went ok, thanks to David and whomever else joined in. It was fun.
Popped in the artgerm collectibles show today. They were selling the fanexpo harley books. I managed to get the classic cover (supposedly the rarer of the 2 covers) for $48.
Starting to get pay outs from my most recent show. Whatnot is taking out 40% for fees. That’s crazy. Sold a couple of Dollar books and got .60 and .59 cents. Seems outrageous.
Might be bigger fees when they’re $1 or so. Credit/banks doesn’t like small purchases.
They take a percent and an additional 30 cents for processing, so cheap books take a bigger hit. More sellers are starting at a minimum of $3-$5 now I’ve seen.
I was talking to some other sellers and they said the fees are going to be the u doing of Whatnot. Buyers looking for deals. Sellers get nailed with fees.
Sounds like everyone is going to go back to eBay and try out their new live selling.
It’s unfortunate as I’ve found a few sellers I really enjoy watching and purchasing from, but I’ve witnessed some really shady actions and behavior from some of Whatnot’s “big name” players in the last couple months and it really left a bad taste in mouth. While clearly, I can’t prove anything, shill bidders seem pretty obvious more and more imo.
Just received an absolute trash condition of a book from a seller who spent most of the show exclaiming how perfect the copies were and carrying on about “grade em” over and over. Fool me once and all that I guess.
Their feedback system is worthless as well as without being able to leave a comment on there’s no point. Leaving a “one star” means nothing when their feedback rating is just a big average. Sure, new sellers with less sales may get a bigger hit from a single star but a seller with even hundreds of sale-no impact.
I will tune in to those of you on here or a few of the “making a go of it” couples on there, otherwise avoiding it. Save my cash for eBay and conventions. I’m finding a pocket of cash at a Con is the way to go these days.
Yep Yep Yep… I agree.
Between the increased fees with Ebay, the sitting around for hours on whatnot (and now fees also), the lack of views on other fledgling platforms, the 1099s; my time with packing & shipping $5 books, etc… I have gone back to the dark ages with comic collecting which is conventions & cash - both as a seller and a buyer. I can deeply discount from FMV with face-to-face sales and I can bargain with face-to-face buying.
With deeply discounted face-to-face sales, I STILL take home more than online sales after everyone (and I do mean everyone) has taken their cut of the pie.
I just can’t do it anymore online. I just can’t. I gave up Jan this year.
New publisher publishing books so they can crank out variants.
And I wouldn’t even call them a legit company.
This will go down in a firey blaze like Artists Elite Comics.
This will be interesting to watch.
I really want a copy of that Whatnot Grim #1 they are all selling this weekend on Whatnot, but I’ll be damned if I’m paying those crazy prices for it. Maybe down the line or I’ll just live without it.
Not only will that news as posted above be interesting, but clearly, every single high profile Convention going forward will be inundated with these new Whatnot variants and books.
It’s a store variant. Dont pay what Ebay sellers and Whatnot sellers are asking. It’s a scam.
Plenty of other Grim #1 store variants out there
I wish I lived in a location where eBay and Whatnot were not options I had to use. If there are plenty out there, I am either not aware of where those locations are or are not able to get to those locations.
Keep paying attention to any of the con streams. I wanted the we live diecut whatnot exclusive, bblut it was selling for over $100 each time it was put up on most of the streams, then I found a scottscollextables stream where they had them in buy it now for $30 double signed by the Miranda brothers. So point of the story is they hand em out to all of their ‘creators’ so just be vigilant and I’m sure you will be able to find one at a decent price with the con this weekend.
I prefer the cat and the dopey hat
That’s sad. With all his viewers, he shouldn’t have to stoop to that. I hope she’s getting paid.
Ridiculous what is this woman’s social media account so I can steer clear
