Batman 106 vs 108

I do to but you can write in great one off stories without trying to push a “new villain” or antagonist you hope becomes the next Harley or Joker one day… that’s the sense I think that is happening and DC knows exactly what they’re doing, collectors and speculators chase first appearances. It boosts their overall revenue and profits.

Ya it has a two pronged effect for sure. I definitely dont want them to keep introducing new ones every issue. But I like some fresh blood being introduced to Gotham.

Let the characters gain popularity organically I say. Don’t introduce “Molly” or whatever her name is and have her already as the B variant on the issue after she barely made it into the pages.

I guess, don’t push the characters, they’re trying too hard to push the new characters. Introduce them and make no big deal about them, focus on the writing… the characters if worthy with the fans, readers and collectors will take off on their own, then spend the extra effort creating awesome variant covers after we’re introduced.

Like Alice in Daredevil 26… make it subtle… apart of the story… then people notice and see what the character does on it’s own.

I dont mind them doing a variant for a new character. They are trying to make some extra sales. I just want the stories to be good. Tynion’s Batman isnt great but I like it well enough to buy every month.

^^ This… yes, yes, yes. See how people react to the character first, then if they’re accepted and liked, then market the crap out of them.

100% agree

I don’t either but do that crap later I say… after we get a sense of whether we’re all gonna like the character or not. Seeing a book with 3 or 4 panels and not much dialogue only to find out they get their own cover in the next issue… before we even get a glimpse of them, meh…

See Punchline…

Why can’t it be both?

Doesn’t the latter exactly describe Star Wars High Republic and/or any new Indie title?

In the end, was it a good story? That’s what really matters.

Don’t get hung up in the marketing or drama.

I miss the days of stand alone stories on Batman books…

I liked 106; I’m totally new to reading Batman, but I enjoyed it.

Read my other comments… I welcome new characters. Just dont push them onto me…

As long as the story is good and the art is great I don’t care if they introduce new characters every issue. Stan Lee used to do that in the 60s with every title. No one was complaining then.

Then again DD story has been great, but yet books aren’t selling more like they should be. This new character flash that Tynion has made money, but ppl are getting burned out I guess. After the dust settles, my best bet is still on Punchline.

Daredevil vs. Batman lol we know who’s going to win that sales battle no matter what. MARVEL doesn’t push Daredevil anyhow.

All I have to say about Batman is…Jorge Jimenez! If he’s helping create these characters, then create away! He is killing it on art, and as long as he’s on Batman, I am too. Tynion’s stories have been solid so far, but Jimenez art is :fire:

Jimenez work is A++!! For me even with a great story if the art is sub par it takes me out of it.
